KEEPING YOUR LAWN HEALTHY
The way you mow your lawn can have a great effect on its appearance and more importantly, your lawn’s health. It is important not to cut the grass too short. The longer the grass, the deeper a root system can develop, and weeds are less likely to invade. Besides, it looks better too. You should also avoid mowing when the grass is wet. Try to mow in a different direction each time. Changing the direction would ensure a more even cut and decrease the chance for a set pattern to develop. Also, always mow with a sharp blade. You should sharpen it several times during the mowing season. It is recommended to keep several extra blades in storage. You should change your mower's oil at least once during the mowing season and never use old gasoline. If you don’t want to drain the gas tank you should use a fuel stabilizer or get fresh gasoline at the beginning of every season. It is not recommended to remove more than one third of the grass at any one time. This allows you to leave clippings that will decompose and add nutrients into the soil. And don’t worry, grass clippings don’t add to thatch buildup.
